Risa Faden is a witch whose ultra-powerful shield magic is slowly breaking her mind. But when her beloved goddaughter is snatched by a demon, she’ll risk anything to rescue the baby—including lying to the handsome, intriguing stranger who has the power to help her keep her sanity, save the child…and steal her heart.

Linc Dillinger is a Wing Slayer Hunter whose sexy, rich, bad-boy charm hides a treacherous betrayal that left him emotionally scarred. As a result he risks his life to protect innocents, but is incapable of love—until he meets a beautiful witch who can save his cursed soul. Risa’s fierce courage and loyalty reaches past his barriers and he begins to believe she has the magic to free his caged heart.

But Risa’s lie explodes into dark danger that forces Linc into a hellish high-stakes gamble: He must either win the witch he loves and her godchild…or endure a loss that will destroy them all.

Thank you so much to Coffee and Characters Book Blog for having me here today! I’m a coffee addict, and of course, a book lover, so I feel right at home. I have to admit, one of my favorite tropes in romance is the tortured hero. I can’t help it, there’s just something so compelling about a man who overcomes a brutal past and refuses to let it turn him into a total jerk.

Linc Dillinger in Caged Magic has a brutal background. His own mother sold him when he was thirteen to pay off a drug debt. His buyers knew that Linc wasn’t an average mortal, but a witch hunter, stronger, faster and tougher than a human male. They chained and caged Linc, forcing him to fight in deathmatches.

Linc escaped at nineteen. And here’s what makes a hero in my view: Despite his tortured past, he refuses to be the feral animal his trainers tried to make him into. Yes, he’s haunted by what was done to him, and the things he was forced to do, but he chooses to a better man. When he meets Risa – the one witch who can save him from an old curse, he refuses to cause her harm despite the cost to him. Instead, he strives to protect her and help her find her missing child.

And of course, the best part of a tortured hero trope is that the heroine of the book helps the hero heal. In Caged Magic, Linc and Risa ban together to break the curse and defeat a demon spawn. But the real magic is in their developing love and healing.

Rising to his full height, he nodded. “Touching you will keep the bloodlust down. The problem will be when I let go of you. Then it’ll hit me with the force of a bullet train.”

His unflinching honesty helped her believe he was at least trying not to hurt her. “What do we do?”

Something almost desperate flickered in his gaze. “Don’t let go, don’t pull away. And if something does happen, don’t run. It triggers the predator in me when prey runs.

He considered her prey? Had she lost her freaking mind here? Goose bumps broke out on her skin. Kendall. You’re doing this for Kendall, and for Blythe. You owe them both. “Tell you what, hunter. I’m not prey, and you don’t pull that predator shit on me, or I’ll find a gun and shoot your balls off. And believe me, I don’t miss.” Damn Archer for melting her gun. She’d feel better if she had it.

Linc raised both eyebrows, his lips twitching. “Tough girl, huh?”

“You know it. I’m a trained bodyguard. I protect women from men who don’t know the meaning of the word no.” Reminding herself of her skills and how hard she’d worked to get strong steadied her.

So I’ll admit, I originally opted NOT to review Caged Magic but then I received Jennifer’s guest post and read it of course, and I was sold. I’m a sucker for a tortured hero. There is just something about them that makes them more real I suppose. Anywhoo, that said I am LOVING Caged Magic so far. Since I got my copy just a little bit ago I haven’t finished yet but I can’t wait to share my review with you all so come back soon.
