Celaena has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak-but at an unspeakable cost. Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth . . . a truth about her heritage that could change her life-and her future-forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed? The bestselling series that has captured readers all over the world reaches new heights in this sequel to the New York Times best-selling Crown of Midnight. Packed with heart-pounding action, fierce new characters, and swoon-worthy romance, this third book will enthrall readers from start to finish.

my thoughtsAfter the ending of the second book I knew I needed to dive into this book. I was a little scared though because many people who run blogs and also booktube were saying this book was really slow and hard to read at times. I’m here to tell you don’t let that stop you from reading this book because this book holds a place in the series that couldn’t be skipped. This book might even be the most important one so far.

I will say that this book should be read slowly because there are just so many emotions in this book that if you speed through it looking for action scenes or battles, you will truly miss out. This book needs to be savored slowly because there is heartbreak here and if you thought there was growth in the second book just wait until you read this. This book really brings the reader to the heart of Celaena. Who is the mysterious girl that we have been following for two books. Just how much can her heart and mind take before she has some type of breaking point. I just love the way we get into the nitty and gritty world of Celaena in this book. If you want a book where the main character is struggling and she needs help to lift herself out of the darkness then this is the book for you.

I’m not going to lie this book is all about character growth. Plain and simple Celaena needs to grow and be open to new things and be open to exploring her past and her ultimate feelings of her place in the world. Who better to help her on this journey than a man named Rowan. Pull out your fans now ladies because if you are interested in those mysterious, dreamy, dark alpha males then this is the man for you. I love Rowan to pieces and he is by far my favorite male character in this series now. I thought I loved Dorian but Rowan makes Dorian look like a child. If you are here for a man who is all alpha then again I repeat this is the man and book for you. Rowan stole my heart from the moment he stepped into the storyline and he just helps to move this story along in a way that just fits and makes sense. His intelligence, strength, passion, and quiet nature are exactly the thing this story needs to balance out Celaena. Everything between these two is perfect.

Overall, this was amazing and the only reason it doesn’t get the full 5 stars from me is because it was a little slow and I would have enjoyed just a little more action and adventure to the story.

about the authorSarah J. Maas is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Throne of Glass series (Queen of Shadows, Book 4, will be out in September 2015), as well as the A Court of Thorns and Roses series (out 5/5/15).

Sarah lives in Bucks County, PA, and over the years, she has developed an unhealthy appreciation for Disney movies and bad pop music. She adores fairy tales and ballet, drinks too much tea, and watches an ungodly amount of TV. When she’s not busy writing, she can be found exploring the historic and beautiful Pennsylvania countryside with her husband and canine companion.
